After a year back on the bars of local pubs Cains beer is no longer being brewed. Mikhail Hotels & Leisure Group had revived the Cains name and
started brewing Cains beers again, but the name is used with the agreement of the brand owners, Terracotta Asset Management. Terracotta is run by the Dusanj brothers who had previously relaunched the Cains name and brewery in 2002. This first venture ended in administration in 2008. The Dusanj
brothers reacquired the brewery and eight pubs, but brewing ceased again in 2013.

Mikhail restarted brewing in June 2022 after a substantial financial investment, trading as the Cains Brewing Company. The beers have been well received by many drinkers.

The agreement between Terracotta and Mikhail included a royalty clause based on the volume of beer produced. There is some dispute between the two parties over the interpretation of this clause so legal teams on both sides are involved. If the outcome is in favour of Terracottas version of the clause, then this makes the current brewing business unprofitable, but while this is going on production has ceased and two of the companies brewers have been laid off. Thankfully it has been reported that they have found posts elsewhere.

We hope that this dispute can be resolved quickly and that we see Cains beers in our pubs again soon.
