Maghull Central Square Bus Stop, Westway, Liverpool, L31 0AE - 10.30am pickup. (expected dropoff 18.00)

The Good Pub Guide is NOT a CAMRA publication. Entry into the Good Beer Guide is not bought but is decided via beer scores submitted by members into Whatpub. silhouetteFollowing the rebrand and crowdfunding project, Flagship Beer (formerly Ship & Mitre Brewing) are planning a bottle conditioned range. Pub stalwarts, Sublime (3.7% session pale) and Silhouette (4.5% dry Irish stout) will be joined by a new session porter and pale ale.

Big Bog Brewery Big Bog Brewery in Speke now has a licensed bar and is due open at the end of January (actual date to be confirmed) on Fridays. Initially, it will open from 4-8pm and will serve beer from both traditional cask and key keg and hope to have at least 4 different beers available at each session.

They plan to advertise to business in the local area to raise awareness but the bar will be open to all. They have an active Twitter account (@bigbog) and will advertise their debut opening through this platform.

The deadline for nominations for this year's Pub of the Year (POTY) competition has now passed.

The number of nominations cast, through various means, was slightly UP from last year.

Within both the city centre and the suburbs, over 40 different pubs were nominated. Although they didn’t make the shortlist on this occasion, I would like to give a special mention to the following pubs for the number of nominations they did receive, as they usually don’t get a mention….

On Thursday 8th February, Liverpool & Districts branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) were informed of problems at the Lion Tavern in Moorfields. Since then members of the branch have been working to establish the facts. Heineken Star Pubs and Bars, the new owners of the pub, were contacted, and local media outlets have been informed.

At the time of the buyout, Heineken said that they would “work closely with the incoming licensees.” Star Pubs and Bars have also stated that, “rent will remain the same, and the vast majority of drinks currently stocked will remain available at

We are an active branch, with plenty of activities for you to get involved with. Please come along to one of our branch get togethers, we would love to see you and you will be made very welcome by the committee and fellow members.  Alternatively, there are other ways you can get involved check the 'Activate Me' pages for details.

CAMRA Members - Are you missing out

Take noticeLiverpool & Districts CAMRA keeps in touch with members on email on a regular basis: giving a synopsis on all beery events (both CAMRA and non-CAMRA) and special news such as pub awards, and reminders about branch socials and meetings.

We are keeping members up to date with what is going on within the branch without using CAMRA funds on snail mail letters.

Liverpool & Districts are keen to keep in touch. So, if you are a CAMRA Member and want to be kept up to date with what’s happening, both locally and nationally, please make sure that your email address is logged on the CAMRA website.

This is very easy to do:

  • Log onto the CAMRA website – www.camra.org.uk.
  • Click the Login tab and sign in with your membership number and password (your postcode).
  • Click the My Membership tab then click Edit your membership information.
  • Click Enter/Amend My Record. Edit and Save your changes.
