POTY 2016 Winner

Cask POTY Banner 2016

The result from this year's competition to find Liverpool & Districts CAMRA Pub of the Year (POTY) was a lot closer than in previous years. But I am please to announce the winner is CASK (@LiverpoolCask) in Stoneycroft.

This micropub, located on Queens Drive near the junction with Derby Lane, became the first of it's kind in Liverpool when it opened in July last year. From the number of votes cast by local members for it to be entered into the competition, it has clearly been popular with real ale drinkers from across the branch area. Consequently, the scores given by the judges and positive comments made, further confirm that it met the high standards in all areas needed to win the competition.

As with all micropubs, it serves no alcopops or keg beers. No music or television, just good conversation. Continental bottled beers, wine, cider and perry are available along with a selection of bar snacks. CASK is adorned with memorabilia from former licensed premises and a selection of literature is available to while away the hours whilst enjoying a good pint or two.

Comments made by judges included:

“Excellent beer quality; over-sized glasses was a bonus”

“Beer- related memorabilia added to the style & decor”

“Spotless toilets, better condition than my bathroom at home !”

“Staff know their beers; prompt and friendly service”

“Friendly atmosphere with a good mix of people; somewhere I felt very safe ”

Some concerns were raised about the limited opening hours, but that is the nature of a micropub, so if you are planning a visit, check out the opening hours first by checking out Cask WhatPub entry.

So congratulations to Ian & Michelle for a job well done ! CASK will now go forward to the Merseyside POTY competition. Winner to be announced late June.

A formal presentation of the POTY shield will be made in CASK on Wednesday, 27th April from 8pm. All Welcome
