On Thursday 8th February, Liverpool & Districts branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) were informed of problems at the Lion Tavern in Moorfields. Since then members of the branch have been working to establish the facts. Heineken Star Pubs and Bars, the new owners of the pub, were contacted, and local media outlets have been informed.
At the time of the buyout, Heineken said that they would “work closely with the incoming licensees.” Star Pubs and Bars have also stated that, “rent will remain the same, and the vast majority of drinks currently stocked will remain available at the current or a lower price.” Star Pubs and Bars new tenancy deal with the Lion licensee includes a rent rise and the loss of the guest beers allowed under the transitional arrangement with Punch.
Clearly a difference between words and actions.
Liverpool & Districts CAMRA and supporters ask Heineken Star Pubs and Bars to work with the licensee of the Lion Tavern and agree an amicable arrangement so that the Lion Tavern continues to be one of Liverpool’s flagship pubs.
