Archaeologists have discovered a massive 5,000-year-old brewery in the ancient Egyptian city of Abydos. It possibly dates back to the reign of King Narmer, around 3100 BC. Researchers believe the beer was used in royal burial rituals for Egypt's earliest kings, although previous excavations in the area had found evidence that beer was used during sacrificial rites.
The brewery was split into eight large sections for beer production and it is estimated that it could produce up to 5900 gallons of beer at a time. I wonder what their excise duty bill was?

Docklands Brewery
Docklands Brewery are new to the scene, having come into existence late in 2020. After liaising with various small establishments to assist with the R&D of their new brews, they developed their ideas for their core recipes- despite the obvious restrictions with Covid-19, Docklands were able to run small batch brews and taste tests to establish their core range.
With the help of Cask Micropub Liverpool, in Stoneycroft, Docklands were then able to bring their first beers onto the market in November of last year- the first, Golden Treasure, being launched exclusively in Cask, where it was received extremely favourably (it has been a repeat visitor to Cask’s handpumps since that first night). Since then, several other Docklands beers, including Shipwreck, Juicy Lucy, Anchor Down Session, Black Sea, Three Graces, Stormy Seas, and Blondebeard, have also been available there.
Once things return to normal, they are also looking at experimental and small batch brews, “on the ‘funkier’ side of the beer world”, with an aim to bottling them. You can find Docklands Brewery on Twitter @DocklandsBrewCo, Instagram @DocklandsBrewery and Facebook @DocklandsBrewery

Mosaic is Neptune Brewery's 4.5% single hopped pale ale. Brewed with Mosaic hops, the beer has juicy flavours of tropical fruits, blueberries, and papaya, with notes of citrus fruit.
Les O’Grady, Co-owner and Brewer at Neptune Brewery commented, “Having Mosaic awarded best Merseyside beer is testament to why it's one of our core range; it's a very popular beer with our customers."
Neptune Brewery has recently purchased a canning line from Micro Can, allowing them to package more beers, and making a big difference to their business. New cans released so far this year include their first barrel-aged beers, Kelpie (a Wee Heavy) and Medusa's Gaze (an American Stout), which have been well received by both trade customers and the general public.
The brewery's latest beer releases are Takaroa, an IPA brewed using New Zealand hops, and Turbulence, a West Coast IPA collaboration with Manchester's Marble Brewery. Turbulence was originally brewed in March 2020 for Neptune's 5th birthday celebrations, but due to COVID-19 its wider UK release was very much restricted.

Beers are available whilst stocks last from selected bottle shops and via the Neptune online store, which launched last year.
